Everyone is welcome to any Nia class. No prior training is necessary. Join us for Nia and experience the joy of movement and the benefits of moving your body – The Body’s Way.

Nia is a dance based fitness program done barefoot to music. It is for people who love to dance and people who have never danced in their lives. Nia will pump your heart, lubricate your joints, release your tension, enhance your balance, and tone your muscles with creative movement, mindful awareness and joyful spirit.

Nia combines the grace and spontaneity of modern and ethnic dance, the dynamic poses of yoga, the explosive power of martial arts, and the stillness and concentration of tai chi to create a whole new sense of well being in your body. The use of eclectic, rich music, guided imagery, powerful kinesthetic cues, and heart-felt joy add to the full experience of a Nia class.

Nia provides three levels of intensity in every movement, a variety in range of motion, and endless user-friendly choreographic movement choices. Nia is adaptable to fit the needs of all fitness levels, from people who have never exercised before to professional athletes.

A Nia class is formatted like a traditional exercise class, including warm-up, cardiovascular component, and floor play. Nia is safe for all ages and all body shapes. Within each class you'll find a different intention and focus, with various styles of music, such as reggae, jazz, classical, world beat, and celtic creating a fun and movable environment.

HISTORY

In 1983, at the height of the no-pain no-gain fitness mentality, Carlos Rosas and Debbie Rosas, both successful fitness instructors, began to question the traditional models for exercise and began to craft a more holistic way of being healthy in one’s body. They incorporated mindfulness, The Joy of Movement, comfort, passion, and pleasure into their lives and their workout as the new way to feel and create both fitness and well-being. They discovered that getting fit and healthy through pleasure is the way to heal, and is the key to health.

From their discoveries a new lifestyle and fitness practice was born—Nia—which offers a new perspective on how to get fit and be healthy while embracing individual creativity and self-empowerment. Nia’s ground-breaking work is now recognized as one of the most innovative and safe cardiovascular programs to date. For more information about Nia, go to www.NiaNow.com.
